David Stead
painter, sculptor and printmaker studied at Harrogate & Wimbledon colleges of art

"my studio is just behind the gallery so to me they feel
strongly interconnected, often paintings come straight from the easel into the gallery effectively 'wet' making the space very much a living one.

The main thrust of my work over the last few years has
been to abandon analytical drawing and instead attempt to sense the magnitude and scope of mass...
to think and feel in terms of form allowing memory to inform the work as much as observation.

Typically I will produce several drawings of a subject and return to the studio to make the painting; work often going through many stages before arriving at what may or may not be its final state.

I tend to work with people and places I know well and getting to know a subject can only be achieved by constantly revisiting and exploring. Some themes such as the 'Ingleborough' or 'Mathew' series have occasioned as many as fifty or even a hundred images".
