Black Bank Top on the north side of Wensleydale (yes – where Wallace’s cheese comes from) is above Askrigg, on the way over into Swaledale. It is a wild and windy spot and on the day I painted this picture I watched a storm blowing down the dale towards me for half an hour before it hit like a steam train. Fortunately I was back in the car before it hit and she rocked like a small boat on a rough sea. Fifteen minutes later the storm had passed and the sun bathed the snowy landscape with ethereal evening light.
