TITLE Swaledale (SOLD)

David Stead
Oil on canvas
100cms x 100cms

Swaledale lies to the north of the more populous and well known Wensleydale; it has a more remote beauty despite its industrial past. There is much evidence of mining here but the scars left on the landscape serve only to increase its mystery and atmosphere. Swaledale also has some of the most picturesque assemblies of barns and dry-stone walls in the Dales. The painting is from above Reeth looking towards Gunnerside.
