Many of David’s family were Yorkshire farmers and he himself spent his early life working the land, ploughing being one of his favourite jobs. This painting looks back to those formative days – ‘It’s when I learned to observe, to look hard’, says David. It’s also when he broke away from the farming life to go to art college at the age of 17 and establish a new, and very different life for himself.
