Painted in David’s Norton Conyers studio from drawings, colour sketches, photos and what David regards as his most important resource: memory.

A view of Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire that will be familiar to local people but perhaps less so to visitors – it’s the view from above Studley Roger looking to the Cathedral’s 12th century west front. if you were to walk this way along the valley of the Skell via the ‘Seven Bridges’, you would come to the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey. It’s a route that must have been taken by the young JMW Turner on his 1797 tour of the North of England and as a keen angler he may even have paused to cast a line into the little river which even today is alive with trout and grayling.

From here you can see over the Plain of York to the distant Hambleton hills and the White Horse of Kilburn; the huge skies are rarely less than magnificent. To the West are the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and the English Lake District, and to the East the North Yorkshire Moors stretch 40 miles to the sea.
