Maquette

When I was a teenager I was lucky enough to work on a farm run by two brothers who kept Clydesdale horses. As young men they had worked the farm with horses but at the time I worked there they showed them. Often I would turn up for work to find Edwin and Charlie leaning on a fence gazing fondly at a heavy hoofed foal that had been born during the night. I learned to prepare the horses for showing and spent a good deal of time with them. They are huge, gentle, velvet nosed creatures and I too fell under their spell.

Anyway: today I have been in the studio working on the wax maquette for a sculpture of a Clydesdale to be cast in bronze. Here is the work so far; it has a long way to go but I’m enjoying working in three dimensions for a change.
