Richmond Castle (In the Footsteps of Turner)

‘Richmond Castle’ oil on canvas 80cm x 80cm

Turner visited Richmond on both his 1797 & 1816 tours of the north making studies on the spot which he later worked up into finished watercolours. As is often the case with Turner, he chose to paint his subject from across a river, in this case the river Swale and David has chosen the same view for this oil on canvas which is now in a private collection.
