Turner In The North

Ripon artist David Stead has been following in the footsteps of JMW Turner and researching his travels through the North of England for many years. He has made drawings, watercolours, acrylics and oil paintings in many of the places Turner visited on his tour of the north in 1797 and his subsequent visits in the 19th century.

It was when he discovered that Turner made a drawing of Kirkgate, Ripon from right outside what was to become David Stead Gallery that his interest was piqued. Since then David has made several films on the subject for both French and German production companies which have aired on the European Culture TV channel Arte.
