River Ure Project

I’m launching a new project about the river Ure – an artists journey from source to the Ouse. The river begins it’s journey east high up in the limestone country of Lund Fell, then tumbles through the stunning scenery of Wensleydale to the gentler land around Ripon & York. I will be painting & drawing it’s seasonal changes & recording the issues that affect the river, it’s wildlife and the differing habitats. This little watercolour was painted the other day at Kilgram bridge below which I have spent many happy summer hours fly fishing for wild brown trout and grayling. The day of the painting was, by contrast, bitterly cold & misty, but the river still had a serene & muted beauty.
