Scarborough Light (In The Footsteps of Turner)

David has painted the harbour in the light of an October afternoon from the high vantage point of the castle. Turner painted Scarborough several times in the early 19th C; perhaps the most ‘finished’ being a watercolour of C1825 in which he painted the harbour and castle bathed in a pale yellow light from the beach, this painting was turned into a mezzotint by Thomas Lupton as part of his ‘Ports of England’ series.
